Manhattan to Hamptons

An almanac, not a booking site.

Manhattan → Hamptons is an independent reference to a single, surprisingly complicated question: how do you actually get from the city to the East End of Long Island? There are seven realistic answers, and they trade time, money, comfort and certainty against one another in ways no operator's own website will tell you plainly.

What we do

We map every passage on real geometry, time it under typical conditions, price it from published fares, and lay them side by side in a ledger you can read in a minute. The moving map is the centerpiece: pick a passage and watch it run from Midtown to the village of your choice, or overlay all of them to see the shapes at once.

What we don't do

We sell no tickets, take no commissions, run no affiliate links, and accept no payment for placement. When we name an operator it is for orientation, not endorsement. The one thing we will tell you to phone — a car dispatcher, when nothing else is door-to-door — earns us nothing either.

How it's kept

The almanac is published by Montauk Highway Press, a small independent imprint based in Sag Harbor. It is written under a single house name rather than individual bylines — an old practice for reference works, where the institution stands behind the facts, not a personality. Figures are reviewed each season; the corrections log records anything we got wrong.
